Hypothyroidism is when your thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough of the hormone thyroxine, also called T4.
The causes are listed below:
spontaneous atrophy(shrinking)
decrease iodine intake
attack by immune system
previous thyroid treatment for overactive thyroid or thyroid cancer
babies born with underactive thyroid
problems with pituitary gland which controls the hormone
certain medications
viral infections
